Ich habe mir einen Promise Ultra 100 TX2 Controller eingebaut und habe and diesen Controller eine 40 GB IBM und eine 60 GB Maxtor Paltte angeschlossen. Der Controller erkennt die Platten am anfang sofort und richtig. Nur Linux net so rchtig ich hab mal meine boot.msg gepostet.

Ich habe Suse 8.0 drauf frisch installiert ohne irgendwas konfiguriert zu haben.

ich habe den gleichen controller unter suse 8.0. bisher war eine einzelne platte angeschlossen und alles lief bestens. jetzt wollte ich aber eine zweite platte (als slave am gleichen ide-kanal) anschliessen und dann habe ich in etwa die probleme wie du auch.

beide platten werden vom controller erkannt, linux bootet und vermurkst dann im boot prozess alles dermassen, dass das root-fs nicht mehr gebootet werden kann.

wäre auch sehr an einer lösung interessiert.

Sorry das ich das jetzt nochmal vorkrame, aber ich hab jetzt das gleiche Problem...
Wenn ich nur eine Platte dranhänge läuft's ohne Probleme, sobald aber eine zweite dranhängt (primary master + slave) krieg ich auch die Fehlermeldungen und die Platten sind danach nicht ansprechbar.
Bis jetzt konnte ich noch nicht probieren die Platten getrennt an den Controller zu hängen (primary + secondary master), da ich kein zweites Kabel hab... :rolleyes:
Hat dafür jemand inzwischen eine Lösung gefunden?

Achso: In einem anderen Thread hab ich gelesen, dass es mit hdx=noprobe als bootparameter klappen soll, wenn ich das mache, werden die Platten gar nicht mehr erkannt...

hi!

hab auch diesen controller und hab hab normalerweise an jeden port eine platte hängen, also 2x master, und hab eben mal just for fun beide an einen port gehängt, also master + slave, und hatte keine probleme, startete wie gewohnt.
ich sehe da "raid" stehen, kann es sein, dass du anstatt bzw. zusätzlich zur controllerunterstützung die raidunterstützung in deinen kernel einkompiliert hast?
oder probier doch mal die zweite platte an den noch freien port zu hängen bzw. erstmal nur mit einer platte zu booten.

So, zweites Kabel besorgt. Also ich hab da mal ein bißchen rumprobiert. Das Problem tritt nur auf, wenn eine Platte am Primary Slave hängt. Zwei Platten am Secondary gehen, eine am Primary Master auch. Nur sobald eine am Primary Slave hängt, spinnt das Ding, dann geht überhaupt nichts mehr, was an dem Controller hängt... Schon komisch :confused:
Im Moment hab ich's so gelöst, dass ich eine am Primary Master hab und die anderen beiden am Secondary. Vielleicht ist der Controller irgendwie defekt (besser gesagt er muss eigentlich defekt sein)...
Achso, raid Unterstützung hatte ich im Kernel nicht drin, nur Unterstützung für den Ultra100 Controller.

Ich habe vier Platten an dem Controller hängen und daher nicht die wahl den Anschluss für den Primary Slave einfach frei zu lassen. Seit ich Kernel 2.4.19 habe tritt das Problem nicht mehr auf, allerdings treten elend viele Interrupt-Fehler auf, obwohl kein irq-Konflikt vorliegt:
